Smithers area

Hudson Bay Mt
Site has been flown a few times. It is open July and August only as access above
timberline is marginal in wet seasons. Access is difficult. LZ’s require mules for out and return and the control zone of the Smithers Airport must be flown clear. XC potential is great: the local sail plane club has flown 300 km out and retruns to Burns Lake.

Chilco Mt
A long south facing ridge for Paragliders overlooking Chilco Lake on the eastern fringe of the Coast Mt. range. Drive west from Williams lake on the road to Anaheim (Famous Fishing resort) and Bella Coola. Turn south past Tatla lake near One Eye Lake. Park at the forestry cabin / parking area. Come in by 4WD. Weather can ruin the roads back here. Launch is a very enjoyable hike up a spectacular ridge. The mountain summit is an archeological preserve made of seashells lifted thousands of feet so DO NOT REMOVE ANYTHING. ***You Will Be Searched!*** Land back at the beach parking area NOT in the lake! In mid summer you’ll freeze to death in seconds. Folk lore is that if your ice cream is melting, throw it in the lake to harden it up. Brrr.
